Double Cab Pickup Trucks: No Change To Reclaiming VAT!

Important Update on Pickup Truck Tax Rules — What It Means for Your MAXUS Pickup 🚨

At JS Holmes, we understand that there’s been some confusion around the upcoming tax changes affecting double cab pickup trucks — so here’s a clear and simple breakdown, especially for those considering the MAXUS T90 or the all-new 100% electric MAXUS E-Terron.

âś… NO CHANGE to VAT Rules

Good news — there are absolutely no changes to VAT rules for any pickup trucks.
You can still reclaim VAT on your MAXUS T90 or E-Terron as before.
VAT remains fully reclaimable, regardless of whether there’s private use or not.

đźš— BIK (Benefit in Kind) Tax — What’s Changing

Starting 6th April 2025, double cab pickups with a payload over 1 tonne — including the MAXUS T90 and MAXUS E-Terron — will be treated as cars for BIK purposes, but only if there’s any private use involved (e.g. school runs, shopping trips, personal travel).

Here’s how it breaks down:

  • đź”’ No private use? No change.
If your MAXUS pickup is used 100% for business, BIK does not apply.

  • đź›» Buy or lease before 6th April 2025? You’re protected.
You’ll receive a 4-year grace period — meaning no BIK charge until April 2029, even if there is some private use.

  • đź“… Buy or lease after 6th April 2025?

    • No private use = No BIK tax.

    • Any private use = BIK tax will apply, in line with how company cars are taxed.

🆕 Why Now’s the Perfect Time to Switch to MAXUS

With this in mind, now is a great time to consider a MAXUS pickup —  Secure your T60 or be among the first to drive away in the brand-new all-electric MAXUS E-Terron, just launched and already turning heads!

✔️ Buy or lease before April 6, 2025 = No BIK tax for 4 years, even with private use.
✔️ Zero emissions MAXUS E-Terron means lower running costs and future-ready compliance.
✔️ Future-proof your fleet before the rules change.

đź’ˇ A Smart Strategy:

If you’re planning to use your pickup for personal errands after April 2025, consider:

  • Using a dedicated personal vehicle for private journeys.

  • Keeping your MAXUS pickup strictly for commercial use — and pay no BIK.
